This is the result of a survey carried out in a Basic Health Unit in the city of João Pessoa PB. The purpose of the research was to produce data for a final paper for a Bachelor's degree in Archivology at the State University of Paraíba. The experience gained from the research resulted in an efficient organisation of the family medical records of the Family Health units that made up the Basic Health Unit. Addressing the issue of document organisation based on the systemic theory applied to archives, it was found that there was a change in the routine of searching for information in such a way that the time wasted searching for documents and information contained in medical records was significantly reduced, improving the quality of service provision.
