This book addresses the challenges of implementing Resolution 1325 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In its four pillars: prevention, participation, protection, and relief and recovery efforts, 1325 offers a broad scope for study and research. Regardless of which pillar is studied or researched, it is apparent that 1325 has made significant inroads in its implementation while at the same time major challenges remain. The author focused on the participation pillar by going beyond the strict framework of conflict to study the challenges related to women's participation in decision-making bodies in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Conducted in 2009 as part of a symposium organized by the Gender in Action Network on the theme of "Gender and Governance" in its political participation component, the study noted the contribution of the 1325 and analyzed the challenges to be overcome in a country where women's representation in decision-making bodies is still low. Hence the plea for a massive political involvement of women among the possible solutions.
