Synopsis

This paper aims to investigate how scientific concepts and technological innovations influence the unfolding of the narrative of One Hundred Years of Solitude, an iconic work by Colombian novelist Gabriel Garcia Mįrquez. We begin with an analysis of how various archetypes of scientists are represented in the work, and then delve into an investigation of the various ways scientific concepts and technological innovations influence the unfolding of the plot. In the third and last chapter we also make some considerations about the conceptions of time in the work and how they relate to conceptions of time developed in science, with special emphasis on physics.
