The book Gradient Index Optical Elements- fabrication and characteristics are aimed for researchers working in the field of Gradient Index (GRIN) Optics. This book examines the fabrication and characterization challenges in GRIN optical elements and presents effective methods for meeting them through researches carried out by the authors. The work is carried out in varieties of sample geometry like a rectangular planer, circular cylinder, and elliptical cylinder in order to generate refractive index variation with axial, radial, and elliptical shape. Among others, the ion exchange technique is used for the fabrication of different sample elements. A new kind of experimental set up using deflectometry is developed and is used for refractive index measurements. Development of anamorphic GRIN element and diffusion studies in elliptic geometry involving Mathieu functions is a very unique topic of this book. The two key objectives of this book are to provide practical ways of fabricating and characterizing GRIN elements and to present an indigenous research work to the workers in the field which is self-contained and easily readable.
