Synopsis
Anti-TPO is present in the serum of almost all Hashimoto thyroid patients, in more than 70% of those with Graves disease, and, in a variable degree, in patients with autoimmune non-oxidizing disease and some normal subjects. There is a good correlation between the degree of thyroid infiltration of the thyroid gland and the anti-TPO titre. Postpartum thyroiditis, usually a temporary disorder, occurs at high frequency in women who have anti-TPO presence. The presence of anti-TPO and anti-Tg, is a clinically useful marker for the determination of autoimmune thyroid disease and for the detection of a basic autoimmune prophylaxis in the thyroid. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between different autoimmune thyroid diseases and the presence of anti-TPO and anti-TG antibodies. Evaluation of thyroid dysfunction in patients of this condition in the population of Gjirokastra Region based on the presence of thyroid autoantibodies and other specific thyroiditis examinations.

About the Author
Altin Goxharaj - graduated from the med. school of the University of Tirana, 1997. For 1 year I was a general practitioner, 3 years of specialization in Clinical Biochemistry medical '99-'02, in Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Medicine. Since 2002 I have been working as a medical lab in hospital "omer nishani" gjirokaster.
