Synopsis
The Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan established within the framework of the SMAPIII/Moulouya project (2007-2009) targeted the Moulouya / Saïdia coastal zone due to its sensitivity to environmental impacts and the international recognition of its ecological values, in order to apply the integrated management process as a model to be generalized to the other zones of the country. This project has involved all stakeholders: the administrations concerned, environmental and fishing associations, and university researchers, within the framework of meetings held since the start of the project.In order to promote the ICZM process in the Moulouya / Saidia coastal zone, the project has provided for the elaboration of an Integrated and concerted Management Plan for this coastal area, designed as a comprehensive environmental programme broken down into actions aimed at restoring and managing natural resources in a sustainable development perspective, with the involvement of local stakeholders.It was based on a diagnosis of the area and its challenges, and defined objectives and recommendations, while proposing a mode of governance for the management of the coastal zone.
