9786139849338: Effect of organic amendments on dynamics ......of soil microorganism

Synopsis

An incubation study was carried out to investigate the influence of organic sources viz. FYM, sludge, poultry manure, fresh cow dung and Lantana Camera on microbial population, enzymatic activity, CO2 evolution and soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC), total carbon content, total nitrogen and C:N ratio of soil at 15,30 and 45 days of incubation (DAI). FYM, Poultry manure and fresh cow dung significantly improved pH, EC, available N, P, K, bulk density and water holding capacity, Sludge has the maximum capacity to increase the population of fungi and actinomycetes followed by FYM. FYM exhibits their potential to raise bacterial population at 45 DAI followed by sludge. FYM elaborates maximum dehydrogenase activity at 45 DAI followed by fresh cow dung. Sludge induces maximum urease activities at 45 DAI. Highest soil respiration was reported with FYM followed by sludge and fresh cow dung with increasing incubation periods. The highest value of CO2 evolution was observed in FYM at 45 DAI. A marked increase in SMBC was recorded with an application of FYM followed by sludge and fresh cow dung. Maximum SMBC occurred at 45 DAI.
