9786139825318: Optimal hardenability steel and method for its composing

Synopsis

This book is designed for engineers and scientists. It provides patented in Ukraine a new composition of alloy low hardenability steel and method for its composing. A book focuses on cardinal decreasing of alloy elements in material and increasing service life of machine components achievable due to intensive quenching (IQ) It is shown that during IQ process the high compressive residual stresses are formed on the surface of steel parts and super - strengthening of material takes place that allows cardinal decrease of alloy elements in material. A fundamental correlation is proposed for designing of optimal hardenability steel depending on size and form of actual machine components. IQ process decreases distortion and corrosion of steel parts after hardening and eliminates quench crack formation. The technology is environment friendly since it uses plain water instead of oil and polymers as a quenchant.
