Cuando la verdad es fabricada.
La madrugada del 12 de julio de 2005, un joven empresario desapareció en extrañas circunstancias en la Ciudad de México. Su familia aseguró de inmediato que había sido víctima de un secuestro y, con el paso de los meses, las calles se llenaron de anuncios espectaculares llamando a la población para que ayudara a localizar a los plagiarios.
Esta es la historia de un duelo fabricado que se convirtió en un descarado circo mediático; el mito de una madre que, bajo la fachada de una mujer devastada, torció los hechos para ganar notoriedad e influencia, mientras destruía la vida de muchas personas inocentes.

In the early hours of July 12, 2005, a young businessman disappeared under strange circumstances in Mexico City. His family immediately claimed he had been the victim of a kidnapping, and as months passed, the streets were filled with billboards urging the public to help locate the abductors.
This is the story of a fabricated grief that turned into a blatant media circus; the myth of a mother who, under the guise of a devastated woman, twisted the facts to gain notoriety and influence while destroying the lives of many innocent people.
Ricardo Raphael explores the paradox of how a person can be both victim and perpetrator at the same time: a manipulation of reality that occurs when truth is subordinated to politics and when the institutions responsible for delivering justice are replaced by an incredible web of corruption, cruelty, and influence trafficking.

About the Author
Ricardo Raphael es académico, periodista y escritor. Columnista del periódico El Universal, conductor del programa de televisión Espiral en el Canal 11 del IPN y comentarista de los noticiarios Enfoque y Nocturno de Proyecto 40, se ha desempeñado también como profesor durante más de quince años en el Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE).
Ha escrito varios libros, entre los que se encuentran La institución ciudadana (2007), Los socios de Elba Esther (Planeta, 2007) y El otro México (Temas de hoy, 2011). Además, ha coordinado El México Indignado (Destino, 2011) y el Reporte sobre la discriminación en México (CIDE-Conapred, 2012).
Ricardo Raphael is an academic, journalist, and writer. He is a columnist for El Universal, host of the television program Espiral on Canal 11 of the IPN, and a commentator on the news programs Enfoque and Nocturno on Proyecto 40. Additionally, he has been a professor for more than fifteen years at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE).
He has written several books, including La institución ciudadana (2007), Los socios de Elba Esther (Planeta, 2007), and El otro México (Temas de hoy, 2011). He has also coordinated El México Indignado (Destino, 2011) and Reporte sobre la discriminación en México (CIDE-Conapred, 2012).
