Synopsis
At the age of eight, Vilma Steindling comes to the Jewish orphanage in Viennese 19th District. At the age of 16, she politicises herself and enters the Communist Youth Association. In 1937, the young woman follows her significant other Arthur Kreindel to Paris, because under Schuschnigg the KP and the KJV are prohibited. After the occupation of France by Hitler Germany, she is engaged in the so-called "girls' work" of the Résistance. In 1942, she is denounced and arrested, comes to Auschwitz concentration camp and survives the death march to Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she is freed by the Swedish Red Cross. In autumn 1945, Vilma returns to Vienna and only now learns that her significant other has been murdered in Dachau. This book traces the life path of a courageous woman who put her life at risk for her ideals and who spoke little about the suffering she had experienced. What consequences this had for their children and grandchildren, the authors also deal with them in very personal approaches
