Synopsis

Wolfgang Folmer (*1960 in Merzig) works across media in the media drawing, painting, print graphics, sculpture, photography and video. Over decades, Folmer has developed an original position in contemporary art. His series created over long periods of time testify to seriousness, precision and will to knowledge. Folmer's art is anything but pleasing. The pivot point of his art is simple and poignant: reality. The reality in all its facets, in its beauties and cruelties, in its truthfulness and its appearance. The apparent harmlessness of his playful compositions reinforces the human abysses that open up there. Despite the different image media, numerous red threads hold his art together - not least a subtle and recurring irony as well as the lightheartedness or cheerfulness of the pictorial language, which is often diametrically opposed to the subjects treated. The catalogue presents Folmer's extensive work in detail and appears accompanying the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Reutlingen (25.11.2023 to 03.03.2024).
