Synopsis
Color has always been a powerful tool in architecture: it can influence perceptions of space and form, convey meaning and intention and guide the viewer’s sensory experience. However, it has lost importance in contemporary architectural practice and teaching. Compiled by the Graz-based research collective Diskursiv, this volume explores the discipline’s shifting attitudes toward color and its use by architects today. Approaching the topic on a theoretical level, the contributors stress color’s potential impact and make an impassioned case for its return to building discourse. Against the dogma of the universal white box, they advocate for color’s rediscovery as a central instrument of architectural practice. About the Authors
Der Verein für Architekturforschung Diskursiv besteht aus fünf Architekt*innen und einem ehemaligen Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, der heute als Landwirt tätig ist. Das Kollektiv befasst sich mit architektonischer Praxis und Lehre. Den Schwerpunkt ihrer gemeinsamen Arbeit bildet eine Ausstellungsreihe in Graz, die von Lesungen und Publikationen begleitet wird.
Diskursiv is an architectural research association consisting of five architects and a former economist (now a farmer). It focuses on architectural practice, education, and the continuous evolution of its principles. Diskursiv primarily concentrates on its signature exhibition series in Graz, Austria, which is accompanied by lectures and publications.
