Synopsis
An unexpected inheritance, two sacks full of stones, catapults Iggy back into a childhood full of alcohol abuse, physical violence and bizarre GDR obsession. It is the stones of a beaten wall painting. When Iggy puts together the six by three metre picture in her Ghent attic apartment, it turns out that some stones are missing. Iggy, who holds her own life together with effort, takes the escape forward. Together with her ex, artist Luka, she sets out on the search for the missing puzzle pieces and the truth. The search takes her to Berlin, where Iggy comes on the trail of her late father's biggest lie, a journey that changes her life. Always by her side, the true heroine and faithful soul: Pug lady Kuro. Brick is a stirring book about growing up in a family where nothing is certain except that it doesn't concern anyone. A biting, sensitively written development novel with an eye for the possibilities of human resilience.
