Synopsis
The heart of the city. The Cologne Cathedral is not only one of the most beautiful cathedrals of Gothic and part of the world cultural heritage - here also the heart of the city beats. The numerous photographs of this picture book show one of the largest churches in the world as a vibrant centre of a lively metropolis. We see the cathedral in the middle of the people in the change of seasons, experience it as an eternal construction site, at pious festivals and in the Cologne carnival. We feel the atmosphere of the star singers, are there when the cathedral is illuminated by a light show, and rise to the architectural masterpiece on the roof. The pictures prove: without the cathedral hardly anything goes in Cologne. In the accompanying text, the fascination emanating from the church building is analyzed and its more than 700 years of building history and its art treasures is presented. Photographer Csaba Peter Rakoczy and author Rainer Rudolph, who have reported many years for the Cologne city indicator, show their personal view of the cathedral.
