Synopsis

Michel and Harry are guards in a block of apartments with luxury apartments. They perform their service in the underground car park of the building, from there they control access to the house. Something bad must have happened outside, a nuclear disaster perhaps or a war. Gradually, the residents leave the block, but Michel and Harry hold the position with iron discipline. They will soon be entrusted with a more important object by the organization they work for. But when a third security guard appears in the underground garage, the situation escalates. Has he been sent by the organization to check the two? Or is he aiming for the last inhabitant who apparently never left the building? Michel and Harry get into a spiral of madness and deadly violence... Masterfully, Peter Terrin tells in his novel of the latent fears that currently dominate our society and the resulting steadily growing control mania of the authorities. "The Wachmann" is a psychogram of our time, haunting, pointed and highly topical.
