Synopsis
A child grows up, on a yard in the south of Germany. Dad? Mother? Are not there. It must see how it gets along with people dictating what it should do, without love. Where the mother is and where the father, the question draws as a mystery through this bitterly beautiful story of a childhood in silent Germany. The war is not over, the birds sing, the fruit trees are blooming, the meadows behind the hill are the safe place for this child who seeks to understand why the people - the pastor, the teacher, uncle, aunt, the children around - are so or different to him. The child must work, even when school calls. Alone a grandfather looks for the right from time to time and takes it by the hand. Almost archaic, the stations from a life on the offside, which pass in this novel debut written with great empathy.
