Integrated digital planning method in globally distributed planning areas. The need for cost reduction prompts manufacturers of varied large series to think about innovative processes and tools of production planning. The Digital Factory offers the production planner a modular kit with different tools, interfaces and methods for procedural and/or self-sufficient processing. This work documents the development of a reference method (DiFOR) for production planning. The three elements are classified according to tactical use (the formal model), the strategic use (the descriptive method) and the operational use (the surface visible to the user). The results are a general, adaptable, reusable and independent design recommendation for method development and modeling according to the character of reference model design.
