Boxing was one of the particularly promoted sports in the GDR. The result of this promotion was numerous medals and titles at Olympic Games, World and European Championships. In the 1970s and 1980s, the boxers from the GDR competed with the fist fighters from the Soviet Union even for supremacy in European amateur boxing. At the same time, the boxing association of the GDR has shaped the development of boxing both at European level and in the world amateur boxing federation sports policy for decades and was able to set standards here.
