Synopsis
Fine detailed history of the tramway system in Stralsund which is a small Hanseatic Port on the German Baltic coast. The small 4 wheeled trams ran from 1900 until 1966. Details are given of the planning, construction and operation of the 2 route tramway along with plans for extensions. The prolonged reconstruction after the 1944 air raids is detailed by which time Stralsund found itself behind the Iron Curtain in the Soviet Occupation Zone and eventually in the DDR. Details of the eventual closure and replacement with buses are given. There is one map, siv scale drawings of the trams and 120+ b&w photos.
