Synopsis
The exhibition Skulpture 2000 (Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven) revealed a selection of various approaches to sculpture, ranging from autonomous sculpture to new, expanded, sculptural conceptions. Yet however different the means, all of these approaches open up the traditional concept of the sculptural work of art, through architectural references, context issues or invitations to the viewer to act. At the same time they strongly emphasise the work's formal composition, placing vividness and sensual experience at the work's core, and express meaning by way of visual information and sculptural form.
