Synopsis
Rachel goes to the 40, is the mother of a 16-year-old son and married to suburban rabbi Seymour Sonnshein for 20 years. She loves baseball, dresses conspicuously, and prefers to spend her time in her studio to continue her broken career as an artist. This does not correspond to the idea of the community members of a proper vine. Intrigues and quarrels in the community and other crises confuse the lives of the Sonnsheins. Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1928, Silvia Tennenbaum was the wife of a rabbi for over 30 years. In her autobiographically colored novel, Tennenbaum portrays with wit and irony a Jewish community in the American suburb. Her novel, published in 1978, immediately became a bestseller in the USA. In 2010, "Rachel, the wife of the rabbis" appeared in German by AvivA publishing house, translated from English by Claudia Campisi.
