This publication documents stages and products in the history of the group of German artists working as the autarkic label "raster-noton". In the category minimal-electronic-music, raster-noton stands for radically reduced tunes which correspond congenially in tone with the aesthetics of the label's product design and product presentation. The CD project "20 to 2000" won the music prize (Goldene Nica) awarded by the eminent Ars Electronica and has advanced to a fetish in the world of digital sounds. As regards content, acoustics and optics, "raster-noton.oacis" goes beyond the momentary. The texts by top writers like Rob Young (The Wire), Pinky Rose, Peter Kraut (NZZ) and Martin Pesch (Frieze, Spex, Kunstforum) examine how raster-noton works on the cutting edge of electronic music, computer graphics and video animation, and the ease with which the label moves between pop/club culture and the fine arts. The creative cover flap includes a CD with audiotracks and multimedia data to complete this state-of-the-art project.
