Synopsis

Since their mothers' so-called women's program, conditions have changed fundamentally and now Anna and Ruth themselves are ladies of "mature age". The two different women are best friends and also family connected since Anna Ruth's brother Arno married. In addition, Ruth takes part in the life of Anna's addicted daughter Caro, a complicated young woman who leads a life on the flip. The girlfriends have also reached tipping and turning points of a completely different kind. While Anna has to process the death of her dementia-ill partner Arno, Ruth ends an unsatisfying relationship. No longer young, not yet old, the two face an uncertain future and a series of existential questions. Sometimes melancholic, sometimes satirical, in any case quite intrepid, they ask about the peculiarities of their stage of life, and, how age goes beyond all role models and role offerings? What it could mean to reinvent yourself as a confessed woman. Not grandmotherly neutralised, neither griesgrämig, nor self-optimised. Anna and Ruth mix in! And while life continues and demands daily coping, a whole new women's program and a concrete plan matures in their smart minds. With her new book, Theres Roth-Hunkeler succeeds in a big throw. A touching, immediately captivating book about ageing, which does not deny the losses, while looking heartily at the half full glass. In the skilful alternation between dialogues, letters, backloins, the inner view of the characters and the external perspective of a sovereign narrative instance, the story of the idiosyncratic protagonists opens up, who hopefully not appear here the last time.
