Synopsis
Geholten Stühle, das heisst, Gerhard Meister, im hellgrauen Anzug mit Kravatte, und Andres Lutz, immer im hellblauen Anzug ohne Kravatte, lassen sich auf einer Wanderung durch die Welt fotografieren. Wie Touristen aus einem virtuellen Land, Androiden oder Zeitreisende, und manchmal auch bewusst etwas wie «living sculptures/revisited», besuchen sie, allein oder auch zu zweit, Industriebrachen und Marschland, Tiefgaragen und Schneefelder, Gletscher, Gemüsemärkte, Tundra, Steppe und Strand. Sie stehen auf den Decks von Flugzeugträgern, sitzen neben Madonnenstatuen in Grotten, treten aus verlassenen Alphütten, stehen zwischen Grabsteinen und liegen auf Spitalbetten, sind unter Menschen oder Pferden, füttern Tauben in Venedig oder treiben Schafe über Bergweiden. Andres Lutz ist bildender Künstler, bildet zusammen mit Anders Guggisberg das Künstler-Duo Lutz/Guggisberg. Geholten Stühle sind eine Comedy/Performance-Formation. Synopsis
The Geholten Stuhle are a Zurich-based art/comedy/performance duo: Andres Lutz & Gerhard Meister. Their first book The Stools Walk The Earth shows photographs of the two on a fictional trip around the world. Always wearing the same suits, like tourists from a virtual country - sometimes consciously alluding to the idea of the 'living sculpture' - they visit (alone or together) industrial no-man's land and swamps, parking garages and snow fields, glaciers, vegetable markets, prairies and beaches. We see them standing on aircraft carriers, sitting besides Madonna statues in grottoes, stepping out of remote mountain cabins, lying among gravestones, or feeding pigeons in Venice. The Stools Walk The Earth is a surreal and eerie trip around a strangely displaced world.
