Synopsis
Features poems by Denise Morgenthaler. It is a "rapid death" that the mother dies, "so fast and so clean", says the daughter, "you are asleep in your bed... you simply forgot to wake up again." It was a death as the mother had wished for it, without suffering time and death struggle, without humiliation and decay. But for the daughter, the unexpected loss is an all the greater shock she seeks to overcome in inner dialogue with the mother. Only a few days before her death, she had still helped the mother, who lived in a village in Alsace, with the harvest. Now she finds solace in continuing her mother's work. She lives in her house, orders her beloved garden, hatches her cardigans, breathes her smell, lets memories, receptions including despair and pain. With the changing but recurring seasons, their attitude towards death and life eventually changes. The author gives a deep insight into her very personal grief. Her moving poetic notes against forgetting that let her mother and her rural world revive will help all those who experience or have experienced a painful loss.
