Artists include: Zofia Kulik, Peter ichlor, Michael Schnabel, Adam Thompson, Ingolf Timpner. The colour black has always exerted a special fascination: we see it and at the same time see nothing. Particularly for photographers, black is the negative of the image. The theme of the exhibition Deep Light at Kunsthalle Wilhelnshaven is not black-and-white photography, but rather how black is used in colour and black-and-white photography; to produce sharp contrast, or to create the ground from which the image emerges. The investigation of black serves as a point of departure for a dialogue on artistic positions that encompasses portraiture, landscapes, and images of the sky.
