Synopsis

A story à la Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn from the 60s, full of warmth, comic and rock 'n' roll.

It's the summer of 1968, J. J. and his best friend Tony »El Greco« Papadakis are ten and inseparable. Their secret territory is the port of a disused canning factory, here they can smoke unnoticed stolen cigarettes, look up the seagulls and make plans for the future. And dream of the day when they will finally see the vast Pacific (because the Atlantic is only a puddle in comparison). More and more often, however, reality grabs into youthful dreams; and during a road trip along the East Coast, the boys show a previously unknown side of the USA that changes their view of life and people forever.
Woodstock and the first moon landing, racial riots and the Vietnam War form the background to this often irresistibly comic, at times heartbreakingly sad novel about two friends whose great trial is yet to come.
