About the Author

Christian August Vulpius wurde am 23. Januar 1762 in Weimar geboren und starb am 26. Juni 1827 ebendort. Er war ein deutscher Schriftsteller. In Jena und Erlangen studierte er Rechtswissenschaften. Eine seiner Schwestern war Christiane Vulpius, später Christiane von Goethe. Goethe unterstützte seinen Schwager, durch seine Empfehlung erhielt er eine Stellung bei einem Leipziger Buchhändler, später wurde er zuerst Registrator an der herzoglichen Bibliothek, dann Sekretär und schließlich erhielt er den Titel Großherzoglicher Rat. Zudem war Vulpius am Theater in Weimar als Librettist und Bearbeiter tätig. Die letzten Lebensjahre konnte er sich, zwar durch einen Schlaganfall gehindert, aber in den Ruhestand versetzt, ganz der Schriftstellerei widmen. Sein Grab in Weimar liegt direkt am Aufgang zur Goethe- und Schiller-Gruft.
