Le fotografie di Christenberry accompagnano questi racconti.Nato a Tuscaloosa, Alabama, nel 1936, William Christenberry è cresciuto nel profondo Sud, dove vecchi cartelli stradali, edifici in rovina e strade sterrate hanno plasmato i suoi ricordi d'infanzia. Durante la sua prima carriera, Christenberry è stato principalmente un pittore, ma presto ha iniziato a incorporare l'uso di una macchina fotografica Brownie nella sua pratica.
