This publication documents Gerhard Richters experiment of taking an image of an original abstract painting and dividing it vertically into two. Each divided part is divided again, mirrored and repeated, producing ever narrower strips, which results in patterns. A total of 238 selected patterns are presented here. Regarded as one of the most influential and pre-eminent artists of our time, Gerhard Richter has involved himself personally and directly with this publication. His work is reproduced here with superlative attention to detail, colour and print quality. The result is a book that will satisfy the most demanding and passionate of the artists discerning admirers.

Condition: as new. Köln : Walther König, 2012. Hardcover. 488 pp. With 238 illustrations in color.15 x 22 cm. English text. - The image of the original painting is divided vertically into 2, then 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, and 4096 strips. This process (twelve stages of division) results in 8190 strips, each of which is the height of the original image. With each stage of division the strips become progressively thinner (a strip of the 12th division is 0,80 mm). Infinitely more divions are possible, but they would become visible only by enlargement. Each strip is then mirrored and repeated which results in patterns. The number of repetitions increases with each stage of division in order to make patterns of consistent size. This publication presents the following 238 selected patterns on 244 double-page images. Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9783863351908. Keywords : ART, Richter, Gerhard (1932-).
