When his business partner Sotiro no longer returns from an exploration trip to the Ogades, Rimbaud starts a rescue mission. While the poet, who no longer wants to be one, tries to record the dangerous expedition as soberly and scientifically as possible, the demons of the past believed long forgotten or overcome push back into his consciousness. The basis for "The Dream of the Stranger" serves an authentic report that Rimbaud wrote about the Ogaden in 1883. Starting from this unusually factual Rimbaud text, Michael Roes immerses himself in the thought world of the French poet and lets him take stock. Philosophical reflections on travel, existence and writing alternate with feverish memories of the Amour fou with Paul Verlaine, Rimbaud's barely explored time at the Foreign Legion and his new beginning in Africa.
