Synopsis

Intensive interaction has now become established worldwide. The non-directive approach to learning allows people with severe disabilities to access social and interactive communication. Through certain principles and techniques, the foundations of communication are taught and learned, which include non-verbal, verbal and emotional content. Based on natural language development through parent-child interaction, techniques such as tuning-in have been developed that allow interactive exchange between a person with disability and a caregiver. The learner takes the leading role in interaction. In this second edition, edited by Intensive Interaction founder Dave Hewett, the texts have been thoroughly revised and supplemented by two new chapters. Thirteen clearly designed, illustrated chapters convey the concept catchy and practical. The work was translated into German by Lena Grans-Wermers, Franca Hansen and Sarah Klug, who work with the Institute for Intensive Interaction for the content mediation and quality assurance of the approach in German-speaking countries.
