The family is the basic unit of society. It is the carrier and mediator of culture and its role in shaping the human personality is a vital one. It is stable, and yet, as a responsive system, it keeps changing, in form and function, as society undergoes change. The changes in the family roles and relationships are resulting through industrialization, urbanization and fluctuations in the economic situations of family and society. Ultimately this leads to change in the roles of its members. Generally these effects on the quality of relationships and create disturbances in the normal life of its members. This book is an attempt to document some noteworthy experiences in the roles and responsibilities of modern families and communities. This book will be definitely a guide for the academics, students, researchers and development practitioners /social activists working with the families and communities to understand and act for enhancing the wellbeing of the society.

About the Author
Dr. Hymavathi is a professional social worker with a solid development experience of about 15 years. After obtaining her Ph.D. in Social Work, Hymavathi work with several national and international NGO projects, acquiring in the process hands on experience and expertise in rural development,academic,capacity Building and in research.
