Synopsis
The objective of the study was to provide an assessment of the restructuring of the European defence industry and to outline some possible future scenarios for the early years of the 21st century. Drawing upon contributions by experts in the field of defence economics, the exercise also benefited from the knowledge of academia, business and governmental respresentatives who provided input to a workshop held as part of the study. This publication covers a wide range of topics, combining a series of case studies together with the more overarching analytical issues. The study contains significant original material, which provides reflections on the extent to which the defence industry in Europe has recently changed, along with an informed discussion of the possible future developments of the industry in the early part of the 21st century.
