Radish has a sporophytical reaction for self-incompatibility. It was used in F1 hybrid seed production by developing male and female parental lines which were self-incompatible lines. The presence of heterosis and availability of pollination control mechanisms such as self- incompatibility in crop plants have proved most efficient tool for obtaining higher returns in advanced agricultural economics. In case of radish, it is very important to develop parental lines on the basis of their self-incompatible mechanism to give superior hybrids without any emasculation process.
