Synopsis

The Eifel is part of the Rheinische Mittelgebirge to the Belgian and Luxembourg border. Many hundred kilometres of hiking trails open up exceptionally varied landscapes for their visitors: large-scale moors in the High Venn, deep valleys and reservoirs in the Rureifel, southern-looking calcrifts in the lime stone and volcanic cones and Maar lakes in the volcanic Eifel. For all these landscapes they have been created in long periods of time. Their historical design to today's cultural landscape has been carried out in centuries. Forming today's plateaux, hills and valleys took many hundreds of thousands of years. For most rocks on their substrate, their formation time is millions of years ago. Thus, the present shape of the Eifel is inseparably linked with the time of its rock formation, the time of the emergence of its relief and the time of its people. All hikes are circular hikes. The route descriptions include a route map with signposts and markers that point to geological history, historical and current special places on the go. Such "eye-catchers" are documented by a photo and explained by a short text.
