Stan Shaffer (1944-2010) was a contemporary American fashion photographer who spent the last four decades capturing his passion for life and sexuality. He began his career as a photography assistant in New York in 1964, and opened his first studio in New York City in 1967. His work has been featured in many major fashion magazines in the U.S. and Europe, including covers for Vogue, Elle and The New York Times "Fashions of the Times." He captured unforgettable images of the most beautiful celebrities and intriguing personalities of the times. Shaffer's photographs can be found in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and internationally, and most recently in The Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition, "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity." His work can also be seen in Ultrasuede, the new documentary film about Halston. His industry awards include The Art Directors Club of New York, the Society of Publication Designers Award of Excellence, and the CINE Golden Eagle as a Director/Cinematographer for Best Short Film by an amateur filmmaker. Shaffer has two adult children living in New York, Justin Shaffer and Alexandra Shaffer. His widow, Louise Robey, lives in southwest France. His love for black-and-white printing and images never left him.
