Synopsis

Seven friendly students, including the couple Christine and Wolfram, feel increasingly constricted by the regime of the GDR. They protest against the undemocratic conditions in the country in a dramatic leaflet action. When they get into the Stasi's vision, they try to bring themselves to safety through "republic escape". What they don't suspect: the Stasi uses the situation to strengthen the position of one of its most important covert employees in an impenetrable web of intrigue and betrayal. Ruthlessly she intervenes in the lives of students and puts them in prison for years. During their court process and inhumane prison sentence, mutual trust crumbles. The pressing question that arises again and again during the long term of detention is: Who betrayed us?
