About the Author

Françoise Marquet established a photographic department at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1981, acquiring the works and organising retrospectives of Duane Michals, Herbert List, Jean-Philippe Charbonnier, Helmut Newton (1985), Jeanloup Sieff, Jan Saudek, and Manuel Alvarez Bravo. In 1997, she was appointed to the Petit Palais, Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, under Director Gilles Chazal, where she is now setting up a photographic department, coordinating touring exhibitions of works from the Petit Palais collections during its renovation (2001 to 2004), and organising major exhibitions. Manfred Heiting is an internationally renowned expert and collector of photography, living in Amsterdam and Los Angeles. He is a board member of the German Photographic Society, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona, and the August Sander Archive, Cologne, and is Chairman of the National Collection Commission at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. He was appointed project director of the German Center of Photography in Berlin in October 1999. Nommée au Petit Palais, Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, en 1997 auprès du directeur Gilles Chazal : elle est en charge de la création d'un département photos, assure la coordination des expositions itinérantes à partir des collections du musée pendant sa rénovation, entre 2001 et 2004, ainsi que l'organisation de grandes expositions. Manfred Heiting est collectionneur et expert de renommée internationale. Il partage sa vie entre Amsterdam et Los Angeles. Il fait aussi partie du directoire de l'Association de Photographes Allemands, il est par ailleurs membre du Board of Fellows du Center for Creative Photography de Tucson (Arizona), membre du comité consultatif des Archives August Sander, Cologne, et président du Conseil de la Collection Photographique Nationale au Rijksmuseum d'Amsterdam. Depuis octobre 1999, il travaille comme directeur de projet auprès du Centre Allemand de la Photographie de Berlin.
