Synopsis

With colour and light, the Ticino painter Cesare Lucchini creates a world of fleeting visions. Since the 1960s, he has made an internationally acclaimed contribution to abstract-expressive art. The interpretation of the life world in Lucchini's work is contrasted with sculptural positions of Alberto Giacometti, Robert Müller and Hans Josephsohn among others. The large-format work cycles of Cesare Lucchini (* 1941) thematize the figure in the room. As if out of the mist, his characters step out of the picture or disappear into the paint and brush stroke. Lucchini practices painting as an experimental arrangement and as a process of search. Starting from informel and pop art, he met the painting of the "Young Wilden" in the 1980s. Building on these experiences, he developed a style that balances between abstraction and figuration. The catalogue gives insight into its extensive oeuvre, which can be discovered here for the first time in parts.
