Synopsis

In an artistic dialogue with the Gothic image of the body-a new cycle of works by Erwin Wurm.

The Austrian artist Erwin Wurm (* 1954 in Bruck an der Mur) established himself years ago on the international art scene with his One Minute Sculptures-staged, mainly absurdist situations captured in photographs-and his sculptures that distort objects, such as the Fat Car. In 2011 his Narrow House, a miniature version of his parents' house, squeezed down to a sixth of its normal size, was a favorite with visitors to the Venice Biennial.
The heart of this publication is a new group of works on a new theme, titled De profundis. In mixed media Wurm confronts for the first time the way the human body actually looks in the twenty-first century with the Gothic language of the body, which arose from an internalized, ascetic spirit.
