Synopsis

The Austrian Graphic Competition was launched in Innsbruck in 1952 on the initiative of Paul Flora and has since been an integral part of the Austrian and South Tyrolean art scene. With the founding of the competition, Paul Flora set an important impulse to revive cultural life after the Second World War as well as to promote artists. The competition has been held every two years since, and the multitude of submissions shows that it has lost nothing of its appeal to this day. The exhibition catalogue for the 38th Passage of the application will also be a catalogue of all award winners and purchases since 1952. Many, if not most, of the works are published for the first time in this book. The present volume is both, opulently illustrated art book and scientific catalogue. It is an indispensable reference book on the good seventy years history of the Austrian graphic competition, which is at the same time a mirror of the Austrian art events of this period; the band also serves as a stock catalogue of the Tyrolean State Museums, whose graphic collection preserves almost all award-winning and purchased works in their depots.
