Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in men and the second in women worldwide. The rate of colorectal cancer has been rising in Pakistan especially in young age group. Genetics could play an important role in CRC carcinogenesis. The book is regarding the role played by ABCG2 and MDR1 genes in colorectal carcinogenesis. Both genes are member of ABC transporter family, which plays an important role in removing genotoxins and pro inflammatory cytokines from intestines. Detailed description has been been given regarding role of these genes mutation and colorectal cancer risk. Also relation between these gene mutations with risk factors for CRC has also been reported. These genes could serve as future prognostic markers and biomarkers for colorectal cancer. Ramish Riaz has completed her M.Phil Biotechnology from Fatima Jinnah Women University. She has previously done her BS in Medical Imaging Technology from Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC). She is currently working as Visiting Lecturer of Nuclear Medicine at RMC. Her research interests are mainly in fields of cancer genetics and molecular imaging.
