The goal of this publication is to show some aspects of coupled modeling applied to assessment of underground structures, particularly to sudden change of loading due to bumps or rock bursts. Classical numerical methods are mentioned and in certain case also used, but the prevailing part is devoted to discrete element methods and their applications in predicting the bumps occurrence. The physical models involve dynamic equilibrium, which generalize physical scaling of static cases. The results from physical models enable the designers of underground structures to feed numerical models, which are more flexible and faster, by rigorous data, such as material properties, development of construction and the effect of that on bumps occurrence, description of dynamic and other time dependent processes.
