Instructing Thematic Progression (TP) Patterns in academic writing has been haphazardly touched upon in writing instruction and assessment domain. Therefore, this book investigates TP Patterns’ instruction and assesses its use in academic argumentative essays. The project also embarks upon comparing IELTS essay scoring criteria with essay scoring criteria based on TP Patterns, suggesting the integration of discoursal features of writing such as TP Patterns in scoring high-stake proficiency tests. Studying this book will help ESL/EFL practitioners as well as researchers to improve teaching academic writing and giving corrective feedback regarding discoursal features in writing in order to help learners produce more effective essays.
