Composite materials reinforced with woven, braided and knitted fabrics are becoming increasingly popular for various structural applications in the automotive, aerospace, and other industrial sectors. Typical processing techniques include variations of lay-up manufacturing and contact lamination technologies, resin transfer molding, vacuum/pressure bag molding and autoclaving of fabric based thermosetting prepregs, and compression/preform molding of thermoplastic and thermosetting composites. The purpose of this work is to discuss the developments in the modeling and characterization of fabric reinforced composite materials and structural components performance by investigating three new innovative numerical models of knit fabrics, are forward–backward Zigzag knit, Chain knit and Tooth knit. This project consists in analyzing of mechanical behavior numerically for 2D various woven fabrics (e.g. Plain, Basket, Twill, 4-Harness satin, 5-Harness satin and 8-Harness satin), other 2D Braid fabrics (e.g. Diamond Braid, Regular Braid and Hercules Braid) and three new innovative models of knit fabrics are forward–backward Zigzag knit, Chain knit and Tooth knit.
