Synopsis

CERN employs more than 10.000 users and scientists from all over the world. Many of these employees work together on projects like the Large Hadron Collider and therefore need a platform to share knowledge and information amongst them. TWiki is a web-based, open source enterprise collaboration software with access control mechanism. In a sensitive research environment like CERN, protecting knowledge from unauthorized viewing is very important. The problem of controlling access for each single user in TWiki would have time-consuming effects. CERN manages employees by centralized accounts in order to access the computer systems. In these accounts, user-specific information such as membership in workgroups is stored. This information can be used to protect TWiki WebPages by giving access to those specific workgroups instead of each user. This book provides a solution on how to facilitate TWiki usage by integrating CERN's workgroups to TWiki's access control mechanism.
