The Report of Secretary General on International Migration and Development 2006 opens with “Throughout human history, migration has been a courageous expression of the individual’s will to overcome adversity and to live a better life” (pg.5). Nowadays, with the increased number of migrants, economic activity of immigrants is therefore significant to the economic development, social and political stability of nations. There has been a quite extensive body of literature on immigrants of first generation. Recently, thanks to the availability of data, research on second generation immigrants is on the rise. Among EU countries, the United Kingdom is one of countries which have relatively open policy to immigration. Using data from the UK Labour Force Survey, this book examines the educational and labour market outcomes of second generation immigrants in Britain in comparison with their native British peers. The book is a piece of work combining a review of theory and use of econometric techniques, and should be useful for those who are doing further research on economic activity of immigrants, especially second generation immigrants.
