Synopsis

Konrad Bayer was skeptical of language, blind language use - and was one of perhaps the most language-loving writers of his time. In his work, he explored the boundaries of language and genres to shift them and opposed traditional traditions and conventions his very own literary means:

Afterword
Everything can mean this and that.
everything may mean something different.
The apple between the teeth is taste.
The stone on my skull is cause of a bump.
die dame vor deinen augen ist einstweilen noch ein anblick.

Among other things, he linked to the authors of the National Socialists and challenged conservative cultural policy in post-war Austria with his texts. Bayer was also invited to conferences of group 47 several times and read in October 1963 in Saulgau in front of Heinrich Ledig-Rowohlt, who was so enthusiastic about Bayer's text that he immediately offered him a contract for his next novel. But "the sixth sense" appeared only as a fragment in 1966: Bayer had taken his life, like the protagonist of the novel, "When goldenberg was back in his room, he opened both taps, closed the window and made it comfortable on the sofa, the smell was not unpleasant, and he waited for sleep."
Bayer's friend and companion Gerhard Rühm edited the numerous fragmentary texts and preliminary stages to the individual works in 1977. The long out-of-print complete work of Konrad Bayer has been extended for this edition with the extensive, previously unpublished estate of the poet.
