Die 29jährige Isamay hat seit ihrer Geburt ein besonders enges Verhältnis zu ihren Großmüttern. Beide wetteifern um die Zuneigung ihrer Enkelin, und beide könnten verschiedener nicht sein. Die eine, ganz Dame, empfängt Isamay am liebsten zu einem Glas Sherry vor dem Kamin, die andere kann in ihrer überheizten Reihenhausküche gar nicht oft genug Besuch von ihrer Enkelin bekommen. Und während Isamay an ihrer Masterarbeit über berühmte Großmütter in der Geschichte und deren Einfluss auf ihre Enkelinnen schreibt, wagt sie sich immer weiter in die Welt ihrer eigenen Großmütter vor, entdeckt lang gehütete Geheimnisse, um am Ende ihrem eigenen Leben eine ganz neue Richtung zu geben.
